Did you know that issuing Tax Certificates (Form P6) is a mandatory obligation for employers in Zimbabwe? This requirement is enshrined in Paragraph 14 of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Income Tax Act (Chapter 23:06), making it a critical aspect of tax compliance for both employers and employees.

The Form P6 is essentially a detailed summary that verifies the income earned by an employee and the Pay-As-You-Earn (P.A.Y.E.) tax that was deducted and remitted to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).


 

📋 What Information Does a Form P6 Contain?

 

The P6 Form serves as a comprehensive record and must contain the following key details:

  • Employer Identification:
    • Name and Address of Employer
    • Business Partner Number
  • Administrative Details:
    • Tax Year
    • Serial Number
  • Employee-Specific Details:
    • Details of the Employee
  • Financial Summary:
    • Total Remuneration Earned
    • Deductions and Credits
    • Amounts of Employees’ Tax Withheld

 

🧍 Who Qualifies for a Form P6 and When?

 

All employees whose remuneration was subject to P.A.Y.E. in the previous year are entitled to receive a Form P6 for their records.

Employee Status Issuance Deadline
Current Employees (in service) Within 30 days from the end of the relevant tax year.
Terminated Employees (left service) Within 30 days of terminating employment services in the respective tax year.
All Employees At any other time specified by the Commissioner General.
