A Zimbabwean Abroad’s Guide to Company Registration

Published: 22 October 2025

We have noticed that Zimbabweans in the diaspora are increasingly looking to invest back home. Registering a company from abroad is straightforward, largely facilitated by digital processes and the support of local company formation agents. The most common structure is the Private Limited Company (PLC).

Key Requirements for Non-Resident Registration

While the process is similar to that for local residents, the diaspora must ensure they meet certain statutory requirements, especially regarding local presence:

Requirement Details for Zimbabwean Abroad
Directors & Shareholders You need at least two directors and one shareholder. A single person can hold both a director and shareholder position. Crucially, at least one director must be ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe to fulfill local requirements.
Registered Address A company must have a physical registered office address in Zimbabwe. If you don’t have one, many agents offer a registered office service for a fee.
Documentation Certified copies of your valid passport and other identity documents will be required for the directors and shareholders.
Investment License For significant foreign investment, consider applying for a Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) license. This provides statutory protections and access to the One Stop Investment Services Centre (OSISC).
